The University of Tulsa has announced the hiring of Brandon Wilkins as head coach of the men’s golf program, Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Moore revealed Monday. Wilkins takes over as Tulsa prepares to relaunch competitive men’s golf in fall 2026, bringing with him a strong track record of success in coaching and recruiting at the collegiate level.

“When we committed to reinstating men’s golf, our goal was to find a leader who aligns with our values, understands the modern game, and could build a championship-caliber program,” said Moore. “Coach Wilkins checks every box. His passion for golf, dedication to student-athlete development, and clear vision for success make him the right choice to lead Tulsa back onto the national stage.”
SMU
Wilkins joins TU after five seasons at SMU, where he served as associate head coach and director of recruiting. During his time with the Mustangs, he helped guide the team to three NCAA Championship appearancesincluding back-to-back trips the past two years and played a key role in elevating the program’s national profile. Under his leadership, SMU produced 16 all-conference selections, six team tournament titles, and mentored two All-Americans and two conference players of the year. Notably, Wilkins coached 2021 Byron Nelson Award winner Mac Meissner, the first in SMU history to earn the prestigious honor.

Coaching Resume
Wilkins’ coaching resume also includes two seasons at the University of Denver, where he helped lead the program to a Summit League title and NCAA Regional appearance in 2019. He developed Cal McCoy into a two-time individual champion and Summit League Player of the Year, with McCoy jumping more than 3,000 spots in the World Amateur Golf Rankings under Wilkins' guidance.
He began his coaching career at Abilene Christian, helping transition the Wildcats from Division II to Division I and guiding the program to its first D-I team title. As a player, Wilkins competed at McLennan Community College and later Abilene Christian, where he earned Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition. A native of Aledo, Texas, he holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from ACU.
With the appointment of Wilkins, Tulsa takes a significant step toward reestablishing its men’s golf tradition and building a program built for long-term success.
