The Tulsa Higher Education Consortium is teaming up with Thunder Fellows to offer a free ACT boot camp aimed at helping high school students prepare for one of the most important components of college admissions. The boot camp is designed to ease the financial burden on families, as ACT prep can often cost anywhere from $100 to thousands of dollars.
"This is such a great offer to be able to have it for free, because that can be a cost barrier, especially for many students in the Tulsa area," said Chantelle Lot of the Tulsa Higher Education Consortium. "We want to be able to support them, especially as they're pursuing college."
The boot camp will be held on two separate days: Tuesday, July 8, and Thursday, July 10. Students are not required to attend both days, but they are welcome to if they wish. The program is open to students in grades 9 through 12, with a total of 50 spots available.
Students will receive instruction on math and reading on July 8, and English and science on July 10. The boot camp will also focus on test-taking strategies and building confidence, ensuring that students are not only familiar with the material but also prepared for the test format.
"The next test that this is going to prepare you for will be the September sixth test," Lot said. "The students will be able to engage with professional facilitators who will walk them through the tests and guide them through what it takes to answer the questions correctly."
To sign up, students must fill out an online application at thunderfellows.org.
