Adult trike racers, water balloons, and big ramps return to the streets of downtown Tulsa as Boulder Dash kicks off its fifth year.
Described by organizers as Tulsa’s most brutal race, the event promises a wild day of fun and nostalgia for both racers and spectators.
Boulder Dash is not your average race. Inspired by childhood play, it’s designed to push adult competitors through obstacle-packed courses on oversized trikes—this year, with no brakes.
“Something about people, adults, going back to childhood,” said event creator Jeremy Diamond, who also owns Welltown Brewing. “Whether it’s a slip n slide, whether it’s... having fun in any sort of cycling type of way, but I thought this was kind of a unique way of bringing some childhood memories back.”
This year’s race course is filled with challenges—from small bumps to towering ramps with names like the “death ramp” and “bone rattler.” Trikes are intentionally built without brakes, pushing participants to rely on their feet—and their instincts.
News On 6’s Jayden Brannon took a test ride and summed it up simply: “We’re going Flintstone mode… wooooo!”
More than 60 teams are signed up for this year’s competition. Some come for the speed. Others for the laughs. All are guaranteed to leave with a few scratches and a lot of memories.
In addition to the race, the event offers a festival-like atmosphere where spectators can cheer, laugh, and even participate in some of the fun.
The gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown Tulsa. Admission is $5, but children 12 and under can attend for free.
