Hillcrest HealthCare System has announced plans to open a new behavioral health facility in Cushing. The inpatient unit, which will include 11 rooms and 21 beds, is expected to open in October.
Officials say the facility is designed to serve individuals experiencing mental health crises and will be staffed by trained mental health professionals. The new unit is part of an effort to expand access to behavioral health services in rural Oklahoma.
The new unit will offer inpatient treatment for individuals in need of immediate psychiatric care. It will feature an isolation room to support patients in severe distress or requiring specialized treatment.
Hillcrest says the facility will be operated by several mental health professionals, ensuring 24/7 care and support.
“Mental and behavioral health is an essential part of overall well-being, and we are proud to bring these critical services back to the Cushing community,” said Jonathan Schell, chief executive officer at Hillcrest Cushing. “This new unit reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of our community and ensuring that individuals and families have access to the care and support they deserve close to home.”
With limited options for inpatient mental health care in parts of Oklahoma, the addition of this facility in Cushing is a significant step in improving access for underserved populations.
Hillcrest officials said the facility aims to provide care close to home for residents who might otherwise have to travel long distances.
Construction is expected to finish in October. Hillcrest has not yet announced when the unit will begin admitting patients, but more information is expected as the opening date approaches.
