People all over the state are excited about the Thunder playing for an NBA championship.
Now, an artist is creating window art in downtown Tulsa to support the team.
From the windows of Ida Red to just outside Fulton Street Books and Silhouette Sneakers, Alexandra O’Neal’s artwork is covering the city and bringing Thunder playoff energy to the surface.
"Yes, yes, I love the Thunder, “ said O’Neal. "I am not a huge basketball fan, but I do think it's the easiest sport for me to understand."
She may not understand all the ins and outs of the game, but she's combining her passion for art with the sport.
For three years, Alexandra has created pieces for the Thunder like painted basketballs and shoes, and even live paintings at games.
She says her success all started because of social media.
"I had a point where I had no followers, and I just was posting daily, and with the help from my friends and believing in me," she said. "They asked me to do commissions and other little things, and I ended up doing huge things like this and working with the Thunder to create pieces for our local businesses."
Her latest work, the murals, has been her favorite. Each one is a little different, but the goal of the art is to bring the spirit to fans like Tony B. He's been a fan of the Thunder since 2008, and he says the love for the team spreads across the state.
"Tulsa reps the Thunder," he said. "I mean, we pull for them."
While it's been a dream job for Alexandra to work with the team, she says the best part is seeing her community interact with her art.
"I have seen people taking pictures downtown, and so it's really cool," she said.
You can see the windows throughout Greenwood, the Arts District, and Brookside.
