Tulsa County deputies arrested a Sand Springs man after they say dozens of cats were living in filthy conditions at his home.
Deputies said they were initially called to 53-year-old Robert Newman’s house about a physical fight with his roommate. They said the roommate said he was cleaning when something fell on a kitten and killed it.
When deputies arrived, they said the house was filled with trash, fleas and animal waste. According to the sheriff’s office, dozens of cats were living in dirty conditions and needed medical care.
Deputies arrested Newman on 30 counts of animal cruelty and domestic assault. Deputies say he is a tribal citizen and is being held for the Creek Nation.
The sheriff’s office says deputies are now trying to capture and rescue the cats to get them medical care. Rescue groups who want to help can contact the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office at 918-596-5600.
