BancFirst and American Bank of Oklahoma are merging. Here’s what to know.

What’s happening?

BancFirst is acquiring American Bank of Oklahoma.

BancFirst is headquartered in Oklahoma City and has $14 billion in total assets. It has dozens of locations throughout Oklahoma, including Tulsa, Muskogee, and Bartlesville. According to BancFirst’s website, it is Oklahoma’s largest state-chartered bank.

American Bank of Oklahoma was founded in 1997 by a group of community investors. The private bank is headquartered in Collinsville with branches in Muskogee, Disney, Ramona, and Skiatook. It has about $385 million in total assets.

When will the merger happen?

According to a press release, the acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, or sometime between July and September. The transaction still has to be approved by regulators.

How will this impact American Bank of Oklahoma customers?

American Bank of Oklahoma will keep its name until the merger goes through. BancFirst says customers will get more information in the next few months to help them migrate their accounts.
