A new facility in Sand Springs is opening its doors to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking take their next steps toward recovery.
The Ridge, a transitional housing development, works in tandem with the Spring, an emergency crisis shelter and restoration center. Together, they offer a continuum of care for Oklahomans coming out of traumatic situations.
Many survivors leaving crisis shelters have few options for what comes next. Kedrick Nettleton, community engagement manager for the Spring, said The Ridge helps fill that void.
“There’s not enough emergency crisis shelters here in Oklahoma. And there’s definitely not enough transitional living programs to give that next step to people,” Nettleton said. “We’ve collaborated with a few groups in Tulsa, but there’s a lot more need than there is facility right now.”
While The Ridge provides transitional living for survivors, it also goes beyond just offering a place to stay.
“We’re going to have mental healthcare services,” Nettleton said. “We’re going to have things like job readiness classes, financial literacy classes, parenting support, all that kind of stuff, and most of that programming will happen here in the main lodge.”
Residents can access resources that promote independence, healing and long-term success, whether they’re pursuing employment, housing or education.
When fully operational, The Ridge will have 12 cabins available and house up to 48 people. So far, three cabins are already filled.
More cabins will be phased in throughout the year as the organization prepares to welcome additional residents.
The Ridge is holding a grand opening ceremony Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and take guided tours of the new facilities.
