News On 6 is taking its coverage of breaking news and severe weather to new heights with the debut of its new helicopter, Osage SkyNews 6.
The helicopter, equipped with the latest technology, will give viewers an even better view of critical events across Green Country. Built in Montreal and specially outfitted for News On 6 in Tennessee, SkyNews 6 made a 700-mile journey to Tulsa, flown by pilot Dustin Stone and photojournalist Scott Steffen.
"I had this smile stuck on my face. It's still here," Stone said. "I sat in there and hit that starter for the first time and just giggled."
The two flew the helicopter across Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, taking in the scenic views along the way.
"We don't get too high up off the ground, so you still have a really good view of all kinds of stuff going on," Stone said.
The trip home took about seven hours with several stops along the route due to weather. Less than 12 hours after arriving in Tulsa, Osage SkyNews 6 was already in the air covering storm damage.
All this week at 6 p.m., News On 6 will be showcasing the helicopter’s advanced features and capabilities.
