The tornado came through the town of Spaulding shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night leaving a few homes with nothing but a shell.
One neighbor helping clean up the aftermath on Sunday said when the tornado hit, she immediately took shelter.
It also claimed the life of 84-year-old Jerry Davis and destroyed the home of his daughter who lived down the road.
“Well, the fatality here, there was a storm shelter, He just didn't go to it. I mean, they were elderly and couldn't get to get down to it and they decided to stay in the mobile home,” said Hughes County Emergency Manager Mike Dockrey of Davis.
Dockrey said they do their best to try and get the word out when they know a disaster is coming.
“I have a Facebook page that posts a lot of information on. Of course, we have storm sirens. Spaulding has a public shelter, has other areas throughout the county,” said Dockrey.
He said this is not the first time Spaulding has experienced a tornado. The first one was in Holdenville. which Dockrey said is five miles away from Spaulding.
Dockrey said this makes the third tornado in two years.
Many people in the area spent Sunday helping with clean up efforts for homes that now sit as shells of themselves.
