Broken Arrow job fair aims to fill bus driver shortage

Battling district-wide staffing shortages, Broken Arrow Public Schools to conduct on-the-spot interviews at transportation job fair this Wednesday.

With many districts across Oklahoma facing ongoing staffing shortages, Broken Arrow Public Schools is actively recruiting new transportation employees by hosting a job fair on Wednesday aimed at filling critical positions, chiefly addressing the bus driver shortage.

Job fair details

The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center, located at 701 S. Main St.

Attendees can expect:

  1. On-the-spot interviews
  2. Details on pay, benefits, and training
  3. Opportunities to speak directly with hiring managers

Interested applicants should bring a copy of their driver’s license and a resume, if possible. 

Why it matters

The bus driver shortage has affected districts across Oklahoma. Some districts, like Union Public Schools, have had to resort to cutting services and routes on certain days because of the severity of the driver shortage, pushing already limited staff to the limit.

According to the district, school bus driver positions offer:

  1. 40-hour work week
  2. Full-time benefits and paid medical
  3. Competitive pay
  4. Annualized pay, which means drivers are paid throughout summer and holiday breaks

The district has another job fair planned for May 6, at the same location.
