In a story of lasting friendships and female empowerment, Oklahoma City's Carpenter Square Theatre will be featuring its production of "Women of a Certain Age."
Before the show takes to the stage this weekend, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch spoke with Carpenter Square Theatre Board of Directors Chair Rick Lippert for a behind-the-scenes look.
A: It runs through April 27, and it's about four women who have been friends since college. Now of a certain age, they get together, and one of them shows up with a month-old baby. What do they do with the baby? This play deals with older female empowerment, lifelong relationships, and the status of the adoption system in America. It is a comedy. There are some touching, heartwarming moments, but it's largely a comedy, with a little bit of salty language, because women of a certain age talk a certain way, but it's a delightful show."
A: A city doesn't really have culture without culture, and live theater is an important part of creating that culture in a city. Yes, we need sports, we need other forms of entertainment, and there's nothing like a live performance. As you well know, the actors are right there on stage, and they have rehearsed for weeks to perfect their performance, and they do it just for that one audience right there.

A: Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. for the next two weekends, and the show closes on April 27.
