A two foot long tongue?
That is a key feature of the Giant Anteater and you'll soon be able to see it for yourself at the Tulsa Zoo.
On Monday, the zoo broke ground on the Clayton and Gina Hughes Family Giant Anteater Habitat which is expected to open in the fall of this year.
According to the zoo, the Central and South American species is classified as vulnerable. There are currently close to 100 Giant Anteaters living in 50 different zoos.
This habitat will feature indoor and outdoor space, a wading pool and natural substrate for digging and foraging.
Tulsa Zoo President and CEO Lindsay Hutchison says, “This new habitat is designed to meet the complex physical and behavioral needs of giant anteaters while offering guests a unique opportunity to experience giant anteaters in a naturalistic setting.”
