Comments from generations of students flooded social media in memory of Ms. Charlotte Mitchell, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Guthrie Upper Elementary School, who passed away on Monday.
"She was one of the most funniest teachers and the sweetest," said London, one of her sixth-grade students. “Even though she would have surgeries, she would come back as fast as she could, and she was so sweet. All I can remember is her smile and the way she treated others."
London said her teacher helped her when she was struggling.
"I would just talk to her some days, and she would just cheer me up, and seeing her smile would cheer me up."
Several other students commented too.
“Most people don’t remember things from 6th grade. She was a great teacher. That’s why I remember her a lot,” said 19-year-old Justin Gordon.
Gordon shared that Ms. Mitchell was one of his favorite teachers.
“She brought home-cooked food always. It was so good. She’s one of the best chefs I ever tasted food for.”
In a video Guthrie Public Schools shared with News 9, Ms. Mitchell can be heard saying, “When I see my students progress and grow up to young adults, and give back to the community, it makes my heart proud.”
Thanks to her support along the way, Gordon said he is doing exactly that.
“Just working - trying to do good in life. She did good at teaching me how to do stuff like that, so trying to do good.”
Guthrie Public Schools released a statement on social media and said counseling is available to students who need it.
