A Southwest Covenant High School principal has been accused of possession of child pornography after a cyber tip was sent to authorities.

The tip came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which gives IP addresses when something raises a red flag.

Where did the tip lead?

Authorities say it was a picture that led police to Kevin Cobbs. He has been a principal and basketball coach at Southwest Covenant High School for 15 years. Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said Cobbs made some admissions resulting in authorities taking him into custody.

How did the police find Cobbs?

Sheriff West said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children gave investigators an IP address that led them to Cobbs.

“Once we got that then we got a search warrant for that residence so we could go to that residence. So the warrant goes inside and access the electronic devices that are in there to see if we could continue the investigation to locate this material,” said West.

Police arrested Cobbs at his home early Tuesday morning. They also questioned him about a graphic photo of a boy hidden in a folder on his phone.

What did Cobbs have to say about the photo and engagement in pornography?

Authorities say Cobbs knew about the photo and said the young man had been to his house and air-dropped the photo to everyone at the home.

The police report states the photo was inside a hidden folder on the phone.

Police say Cobbs admitted to looking up adult pornography but denied looking up images specific to child pornography.

Authorities asked Cobb why he kept the photo in his phone and he responded saying he did not know what else to do with it.

What happens next?

Cobb is now out on a $25,000 bond.

Sheriff West added, “We're going to go ahead and examine the electronic devices, and then if we find out if we can identify victims, obviously we do want to talk to those, those individuals.”
