Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently visited Oklahoma Representative Tom Cole in Washington, D.C., to discuss DOGE-related federal cuts and government efficiency.
The meeting, part of ongoing discussions about the future of federal spending, comes as Oklahoma’s congressional delegation wrestles with the impact of budget reductions on critical services, including weather forecasting.
According to Rep. Cole, Musk acknowledged that mistakes may be made in the process of streamlining government operations but assured leaders that they would be corrected. Cole, a senior House member, expressed general support for Musk’s cost-cutting initiatives while also emphasizing the need for careful oversight to prevent harmful reductions.

Other Oklahoma lawmakers, including Rep. Stephanie Bice, have voiced concerns over the rapid pace of federal asset divestment, particularly regarding the proposed disposal of the Oklahoma City federal building. While the state’s delegation largely supports reducing the federal government’s footprint, some lawmakers worry about the speed and execution of these efforts.
The delegation remains engaged, ensuring that necessary adjustments are made to avoid unintended consequences. Lawmakers stress that open dialogue with DOGE officials is crucial to protecting essential services while pursuing fiscal responsibility.
