As wildfire season approaches, experts urge Oklahomans to prepare their emergency supply kits before disaster strikes.

Having a ‘Go Bag’ prepared and easily accessible could be crucial in the event of an evacuation.

A ‘Go Bag’ should be lightweight, easy to carry, and designed for quick access.

Use a backpack to store essential items, and consider a wheeled tub or chest for food and water. Make sure the bag is light enough for you to quickly load into your vehicle if needed.

Here’s a checklist to ensure your bag includes everything you might need during an emergency evacuation:

  1. 3-day supply of non-perishable food & 3 gallons of water per person
  2. Map with at least two evacuation routes
  3. Prescriptions or medications
  4. Change of clothes & extra eyeglasses/contact lenses
  5. Extra car keys, credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks
  6. First aid kit & sanitation supplies
  7. Flashlight & battery-powered radio with extra batteries
  8. Copies of important documents (birth certificates, passports, etc.)
  9. Pet food & water

Additionally, always keep sturdy shoes and a flashlight near your bed, as nighttime evacuations can occur unexpectedly.

If time allows before evacuation, consider adding:

  1. Valuables that are easy to carry
  2. Family photos and irreplaceable items
  3. Personal computer data on hard drives and disks
  4. Chargers for cell phones and laptops
