The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a woman is dead after crashing into a charter bus while driving the wrong way on Interstate 244 late Sunday night.

Troopers said the crash happened just before midnight on I-244 near Memorial Drive. The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old woman, died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

According to OHP, the bus was carrying families from Iowa who were in Tulsa for the Big 12 Wrestling Championship at the BOK Center over the weekend. There were 38 people on board, including some wrestlers, but no one on the bus was injured.

The crash caused significant damage to both the SUV and the bus. Families on the bus were unable to secure another vehicle and are staying in Tulsa an extra night before returning home.

OHP shut down three lanes of I-244 for more than two hours while troopers investigated the crash. The roadway reopened early Monday morning.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not determined why the woman was driving the wrong way. OHP said the bus driver will not be at fault.
