The annual Backwoods Hunting and Fishing Expo is set to return to the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds this weekend.
Held inside The Pavilion, the event will feature over 130 vendors showcasing a variety of hunting and fishing gear, including apparel, deer blinds, duck and game calls, and more.
The expo spans over 70,000 square feet and promises something for everyone, from seasoned hunters to newcomers.
Courtland Potter, co-owner of Backwoods, and Jeff Danker, host of the Outdoor Channel's "Buck Ventures" TV show, joined the News 9 team on Monday to share more about the event.
What can visitors expect at this year's expo?
In addition to vendors, Danker said there will also be educational opportunities, including a seminar given by him on budgeting when deer hunting.
"There [are] several other pros that will be there talking seminars ... It's good for the whole family," Danker said.
Potter said one of the highlights for children includes a catfish pond stocked with live fish for children to reel in.
Danker and Potter also said one of the main draws of the event is how it can allure people who otherwise may not have as much outdoor experience as others.
"It's great for people who don't really have any experience in it because we have all the gear that you're going to need," Potter said. "There's also going to be outfitters from all across the world here in Oklahoma, of course. So if you want to tag a deer or go fishing one of our mini lakes, we [have] someone for you, but also other states like Alaska, New Mexico, even Canada, and South Africa."
Additionally, the expo's taxidermy collections showcase the many types of wild game found right here in the Sooner State.
"Oklahoma has some of the best hunting and fishing, and such great people come down there to see the Oklahoma Wall of Fame," Danker said. "Those big old deer that right here, right here in Oklahoma County, even big deer ... We have a special place here, and that's where we all come together."
