As Oklahoma’s film industry continues to grow, drawing major productions like Twisters and Tulsa King, a new studio in downtown Oklahoma City is aiming to add to that momentum.

One Set Studio, the state’s first purpose-built virtual production and extended reality (XR) studio, is revolutionizing filmmaking by allowing creators to shoot scenes in any setting—without ever leaving the studio. From dark alleys to bustling city streets, or even courtside with the Thunder Girls, the studio’s advanced technology offers limitless possibilities.

“We want to be a resource and a creative solution for any type of content creator,” said Tava Maloy Sofsky, director of One Set Studio. She stood in front of the studio’s massive volume wall, a 40-foot-wide, 13-foot-tall LED screen that immerses filmmakers in any location, eliminating travel costs and weather-related delays.

“We can switch scenes and be in multiple locations all in one day,” said studio manager Austin Patterson.

Since opening in spring 2024, One Set Studio has attracted major sports teams, advertisers, and filmmakers. Its first feature film, The One, brought veteran actor Martin Sheen to set, with 95% of the cast and crew based in Oklahoma.

“That speaks volumes,” Sofsky said. “When they’re choosing to stay here, they’re helping build a local workforce.”

For Sofsky, this mission is personal. After spending two decades in the industry outside of Oklahoma, she’s now working to ensure the next generation of filmmakers can thrive in the state.

“We’re gonna be working and collaborating with educators to train up the next generation because a lot of people believe this is the future of film,” she said.
