A standoff ended with Tulsa Police shooting and killing a man after they say he came out of the house with a woman and a gun and pointed it at officers.
Officers from the Tulsa Police Special Operations Team spent several hours trying to persuade the suspect to exit the home near 5900 E Marshall. Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg said that the man came to the door a couple of times but refused to surrender. The situation escalated around 4 p.m.
"He emerges from the home with this person, there's a woman who lives in the home with him, he had a pistol in his hand. He starts aggressing officers and then we had to intervene at that point, and his actions forced officers to fire upon him, stopping his continuing threat," said Meulenberg.
That woman is uninjured and no officers were hurt during the incident. The officer who shot the suspect will be placed on leave.
The standoff started before noon on Friday after a teen called the police saying that he was being robbed at a store nearby. That teen is now safe.
According to Tulsa Police, officers may have interacted with the suspect earlier in the day. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the armed robbery incident and how it began.
