One person is dead after they were hit by a car on Thursday night in Tulsa, police say.
Officers say the victim was jaywalking in a dark area near South Memorial Drive and East 11th Street when he was hit by a car around 11 p.m.
Police say because the man was wearing dark clothing, in an area that was not well-lit, the driver didn't see the man crossing the road.
According to TPD, the victim died at the scene. His name or age has not been released.
Officers had to shut down 11th Street between 77th East Avenue and Memorial for several hours while they investigated and cleaned up the scene, but that area is now back open to traffic.
Tulsa Police have a safety warning they want all pedestrians to know.
"We're really urging people to not walk, not jaywalk at all, and definitely not jaywalk on major arterial streets,” Sgt. John Shelton said. "We have too many of these and people have to deal with the fallout from that and that's really sad."
Police say nobody else was hurt.
The driver involved is cooperating with police, no arrests have been made at this time.
