Severe weather struck the Tulsa area early Sunday morning, bringing 80 mph winds and heavy rain that left trees and fences down, scattered debris across streets, and initially cut power for thousands of residents.
The damage included blown-away trampolines and debris-littered streets, which Tulsa crews began clearing early Monday.
Residents like Dominic Shumilla and Danielle Furtmann were awakened by tornado warnings.
"We lost an hour due to the storm, but gained an hour due to the time change," Shumilla noted with a bit of humor.
After their phones alerted them to tornado warnings, they heard sirens, an experience that left Furtmann on edge.
Chloe Robinson is new to Tulsa and faced the storm with trepidation, quickly gathering pets and essentials.
"We saw that and we went straight to the bathroom, we grabbed our cats, grabbed our Crocs, our keys, I don’t know, we weren’t sure what to do," Robinson shared, explaining that it was her first encounter with Oklahoma’s severe weather.
