A Tulsa musician, radio DJ, and activist is being recognized for his work in the community.

Bobby Eaton Junior received the ‘Tried Stone Award' this month in Memphis, Tennessee. He says this award is all about legacy.

Eaton is the CEO of Eaton Media Services, runs 12 radio shows, and was the former host of 'The Bobby Eaton Show.'

Before doing radio, Eaton had a long career in music, performing with artists like Natalie Cole and Tulsa's own Charlie Wilson.

He returned to Tulsa in 2014 and now dedicates his life to serving the community, working with students on the 'Juice Radio Show'.

It's a nonprofit that teaches journalism, livestreaming, and broadcasting. Earlier this month he got a chance to go to Memphis and attend the 29th Annual Stone Awards.

He says the event honored people from different states for the work they do in the community.

“They have educators, community leaders from all over the country that come in, you know, and they give awards to Kentucky, Arkansas, you know Alabama, you name it, Oklahoma and I'm just one of them," Eaton said.

While in Memphis, Eaton says he spoke about the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the work being done to build up the North Tulsa community.
