A local business owner, Page Cole, says it is shocking that a woman was killed just feet from his business near Cherry Street.
“It is a little shocking. We’re in a great neighborhood—Maple Ridge behind us, there are half-million dollar homes back here, we have families walk up and down this street, people walking their dogs,” Cole said.
Cole said his first thought was to check on his employees.
“We see a lot of traffic at the bus stop here on our side of the street. Obviously, I’m concerned about the safety of my staff—were they all OK?—and everybody was,” Cole said.
Tulsa police say the woman was walking when someone in a car pulled up and shot her.
“It doesn’t seem random. We are working on some leads, but we’re so early in this investigation that we’re not ruling anything out right now,” said Capt. Richard Meulenberg.
Officers say a man riding a bike saw the woman and ran to a nearby McDonald’s, telling employees to call 911. Police say they appreciate the quick actions and urge anyone with information to come forward.
“This one is kind of a whodunit right now. We’re still working on some details. It’s an active investigation, we’re trying to get everything together,” Meulenberg said.
Tulsa police say this is the city’s 43rd homicide of the year. They say they have solved 100 percent of the cases so far.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
