Tulsa Housing Authority's River West apartment is officially complete.
This was a six-phase project with 435 units that began in 2018.
The focus was to mix market rate units with subsidized units and bring more affordable housing options to the area.
"There was some skepticism on whether or not a market rate renter here in Tulsa would want to live next door to a subsidized renter, and we've proven that that is not the case, in fact our market rate units are the first to lease up," said Ginny Hensley with Tulsa Housing Authority.
Monica Guinn has been a tenant for a few years and says it's been a great experience having such nice housing at an affordable price.
"With the buildings being brand new we now have a lot more appliances, maintenance is a lot more able to fix things, we have a lot more to work with than we did before," she said.
She says one great perk is that her kids have a place to play and enjoy all the new amenities.
"The kids have a lot more places to play with having a park out here, we're fixing to have the YMCA out here, the kids love it out here," Monica said.
Tulsa Housing Authority says 92 percent original residents returned to the property, and it's not just great for them, but the entire area.
"We're super excited, not just because of the beautiful new housing that's here, but because of what we've seen and how it's elevated the lives of our residents and the broader neighborhood as well," Hensley said.
Tulsa Housing Authority is now working on a similar project near 36th St. North and Peoria.
