The city of Collinsville is restoring an important piece of its history — a caboose built in 1915, one of the last of its kind in the world.

City officials hope the restoration will draw tourists to Collinsville and serve as an educational tool for local students.

“We envisioned bringing kids from local schools out and giving tours, educating them about railroad history,” said Collinsville City Manager Chuck Ralls.

To help fund the restoration, the Collinsville American Legion and Collinsville Historical Society are hosting a bingo fundraiser on Saturday.

Proceeds will go toward the cost of materials for the project.
