Oklahoma State's top-ranked women's tennis team completed the weekend sweep with a 5-2 win over No. 37 BYU Saturday in Provo, Utah.
The Cowgirls improve to 15-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play with the win, marking their second-best start to a season in program history, behind only 1981 (18-0).
The match began with doubles, where Oklahoma State dropped its first doubles point in its last 10 matches. BYU's Kendall Kovick and Emilee Astle knocked off the No. 5 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru, 6-2, on court one.
On court three, Kara Wheatley and Tina Li of the Cougars took down Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak, 6-2, to secure the doubles point for BYU.
OSU's Raquel Gonzalez and Ayumi Miyamoto led on court two as the point was clinched, 5-4, over Kaavya Sawhney and Bobo Huang.
WiTh the Cowgirls trailing by one, the match continued with singles. No. 4 Kajuru got OSU on the board with a dominant win on court two, defeating Li, 6-0, 6-1.
No. 89 Carrington followed that with a win on court four, defeating Jacque Dunyon 7-5, 6-1. No. 7 Komar put the Cowgirls one point shy of clinching the match with a 6-2, 6-3, win over No. 74 Huang on court one.
Novak wasted no time clinching the match for OSU on court six, getting a dominant win over Smith, 6-1, 6-0, to seal the deal.
BYU claimed one more point as Kovick defeated No. 54 Lucia Peyre on court three, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, but No. 84 Miyamoto finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-4, win on court five over Wheatley.
Oklahoma State will be back at home next weekend to take on TCU and Baylor looking to stay undefeated on the season.
