Thunder forward Perry Jones III is on his way to Boston in a salary-dump move. The Thunder will also send a 2019 second-round pick and cash to the Celtics in return for a 2018 second-round pick. The Thunder will also receive a $2.1 million trade exception as part of the deal.
Jones was set to make a little over $2 million this season and by freeing up his roster spot the Thunder now have room for 2014 first-rounder Josh Huestis.
Jones showed flashes of potential in 2014 when he was forced into the starting lineup thanks to a rash of injuries but he just couldn’t polish his game enough to warrant consistent playing time off the bench when OKC had its starters back. He’s averaged 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in three seasons.
