Through their investigation, fire officials discovered the Little Axe fire was set "intentionally and maliciously." When they spoke with Graumann, he confessed to setting one of the field house lockers on fire, as well as four other house fires in the area since July.
News 9 learned Friday morning that Graumann was a firefighter for Little Axe Fire Department. Little Axe Fire Chief Al Schneider said he was a "probationary" firefighter, because he was in his first year with the department and could be let go at any time for any reason.
Schneider said Graumann was let go a few weeks ago, as soon as he knew Graumann was being investigated.
The Chief told News 9 he was, “Totally shocked and floored,” when he found out Graumann was arrested.
Schneider said Graumann helped fight all five fires he's accused of starting.
