World number one Scottie Scheffler left no doubt winning The Open by four shots at 17-under par. Scheffler, who now has four major titles, needs to win the U.S. Open to complete the career grand slam. Scheffler now has 10 consecutive wins when leading outright after 54 holes, which is the most behind only Tiger Woods who did it 36 straight times.
Former OU Sooner Chris Gotterup continues to play great golf. Gotterup, who won the Scottish Open last week, finished in third at 12-under par.
Gotterup began the final round at 8-under and finished with a 4-under 67. Knocking on the door of being considered for the Ryder Cup team, Gotterup said, "I knew Scottie was going to go out there and put a good round together, but I'm proud of how I fought out there. Gotterup added, " I expected to play well, but not quite this week. I'm not sure what is going on over here."
Former OSU Cowboys Rickie Fowler and Wyndham Clark both finished strong as well. Fowler made eight birdies in the final round and shot a 6-under 65. Fowler finished tied for 14th at 8-under par, which was his highest finish in a major since finishing tied for fifth at the U.S. Open in 2023.
Clark matched Fowler's 6-under 65 on Sunday to finish at 11-under, tied for fourth. That was Clark's best finish in a major this year by far after finishing tied for 46th at The Masters, tied for 50th at the PGA Championship and missing the cut at the U.S. Open.
Fellow OSU Cowboy Viktor Hovland finished tied for 63rd at 4-over.
