Only one player posted a better second-round score at The Open Championship in Northern Ireland on Friday than Chris Gotterup.
That player just happens to be ranked number one in the world. You know the name, Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler leads The Open at 10-under heading into Saturday's third round. The three-time major champion fired a 7-under 64 to move into the lead by one over Matt Fitzpatrick.
Gotterup, though, is not far behind. The former OU Sooner put together a 6-under 65 on Friday to move up the leaderboard at Royal Portrush.
Gotterup enters the third round on Saturday tied for fifth at 5-under par. Coming off the Scottish Open win last week, which got Gotterup in The Open field, he said, "Coming off last week, I know where my game is at. It is in a good spot. I feel like I'm playing well, and hopefully I can be in a good spot entering Sunday. I'm happy to be where I'm at, I'm in a good spot."
Gotterup will tee off in the third round at 8:55 a.m. Central Time.
A few other local products are around to play this weekend as well. Former OSU Cowboys Wyndham Clark and Viktor Hovland are both at even par for the tournament. Fellow OSU Cowboy Rickie Fowler is tied for 26th at 1-under.
