Guthrie 89ers Day kicks off on Wednesday in Guthrie, bringing visitors from Guthrie and the surrounding areas to honor Oklahoma's history, especially the Land Run of 1889.
"My favorite part probably is the parade because it's so magical seeing just the whole town come together, line the street, and it's actually the longest parade in Oklahoma," Caitlyn Cramer, Guthrie's 89er Queen, said. "So it's really cool."
89ers Queen Cramer is one of the featured guests, along with 89ers Princess Kimber Faith Powers. In order to become 89ers royalty, candidates must complete an application, a horsemanship test, and a Q&A session.
"It means a lot to me because I get to be a role model," Powers said. "I get to show all these little girls that, like, everybody can do it. It doesn't take one special person to do it, and it's like it may look scary, but just go."
Both Cramer and Powers emphasize the community pride and growing turnout each year. They say the event plays a key role in educating and inspiring younger generations about the town's roots and Oklahoma's historical legacy.
The event opens on Wednesday with a carnival, and activities will run throughout the entire weekend, rain or shine.
In addition to the carnival, activities planned include:
Attendees are encouraged to visit the 89ers Day official website for full event information. The event is family-friendly, grounded in tradition, and continues to expand yearly.
