As the crowd of thousands poured in, everyone discovered nearly 70 acres to explore. The celebration Tulsa’s Gathering Place started this morning with a parade followed by speeches and ceremonies, hosted by our own Travis Meyer.
Climbing on red netting in between towers kids are taking on challenges facing new heights at Chapman Adventure Playground on opening day.
"I first started out and I was really, really scared. But then after that, it wasn't so scary. But when it started to wiggle I was like oh no!" said 8-year-old Raylene Crow.
With more slides than you can count there's plenty of ways to stay close to the ground, too. And in the Sensory Garden adults are making their own noise.
"I am 61 years old, and I have had a blast here all day long," said Denise Polonchak.
The world-class park everyone's been waiting for feels like a dream to 8-year-old Maeve Yeagley.
"It's like Disneyland. It's like the never-ending story. It's just awesome," she said.
And the best part is this is only the beginning.
"It's actually really fun because you get to meet new friends," said Raylene.
There will be concerts and other events going on out here for the next several months.
