The Oklahoma Insurance Department is expanding its OKReady Strengthen Oklahoma Homes program, adding nine new zip codes for the second pilot launch.

The department plans to award 250 grants during this phase, helping residents improve their homes' resistance to wind and hail damage.

Starting at noon on Monday, May 5, eligible homeowners in the selected areas can apply online for grants of up to $10,000 to cover the cost of roofing improvements designed to meet FORTIFIED Home – Roof™ standards, with a hail-resistant supplement.

Where the Grants Are Going

The nine zip codes selected for this round are:

  1. 73078 — Piedmont
  2. 73012 — West Edmond
  3. 73034 — Edmond
  4. 73013 — NW Oklahoma City
  5. 74106 — North Tulsa
  6. 74055 — Owasso
  7. 74010 — Bristow
  8. 74066 — Sapulpa
  9. 74017 — Claremore/Foyil

These areas were chosen based on storm damage history, paid insurance loss ratios, and the volume of active policies. FEMA data and contractor availability also factored into the selection process.

Why These Communities Were Selected

“These zip codes represent communities that weren’t selected but targeted in our initial pilot project in Oklahoma City and areas in and around the Tulsa metro that convective storms have significantly impacted,” said Ashley Scott, Deputy Commissioner of External Affairs and OKReady director.

Each pilot phase is designed to ensure that program staff and external partners can manage demand, troubleshoot technical issues, and process applications efficiently.

What the Grants Cover

Approved applicants will receive funding for home improvements that meet the Institute for Business and Home Safety’s FORTIFIED Roof™ standards. The upgrades focus on reducing damage from Oklahoma’s most frequent weather threats: strong winds and hail.

The grant does not cover all home repairs — only eligible upgrades that align with program standards and are completed by approved contractors.

How to Apply

Homeowners in the selected zip codes can apply online at oid.ok.gov/OKReady starting at noon on May 5. The site includes eligibility guidelines, required documents, and income-based tiers.

For questions, residents can email the program at okready@oid.ok.gov.
