"The Unbreakable Boy" premieres in theaters Friday, bringing to life the story of a father's journey raising a child with autism and brittle bone disease. The movie was filmed in Oklahoma, where the story takes place.
Written by University of Oklahoma alumnus Scott LeRette, "The Unbreakable Boy" tells the story of Scott raising his son, Austin, whose condition is a cause of worry for his parents.
The circumstances of Ausatin's condition make it unclear whether their son's future will be one in which he feels fulfilled, LeRette's book says.
Austin, the titular "Unbreakable Boy," earns his title through the unwavering faith and indomitable spirit that allow his family to find joy, gratitude, and courage in even the most difficult circumstances.
"The Unbreakable Boy" provides hope for families who are unsure about their children's future due to conditions such as Austin's while also affirming the power faith can have in overcoming adversity.
The movie is adapted from a book written by Scott before its film adaptation.
News 9 previously interviewed the LeRettes, who shared an intimate look into the journey of the story that has come to define their lives.

"In essence, we didn't intend on doing this, but it's a love story, and love is one of the biggest things, as well as my faith," Scott said. "There's an underlying theme and thread of faith through the whole thing, but I think the reason that Kingdom Story Company, Lionsgate and even HarperCollins with my book gravitated to it and embraced it was because everybody is flawed, messed up, and broken."
LeRette said he has one goal in mind for viewers of his movie.
"My hope is that anybody who steps inside the movie theater walks away with something because they can relate it to at least one small thing in their own life."
"The Unbreakable Boy" is playing in theaters now, and is also available for digital pre-order through Youtube.
