In the wake of Charlie Kirk's death, Sen. Shane Jett, R-Shawnee, is introducing new legislation in his memory.

Kirk was killed by a single shot in an apparent targeted attack while speaking at an event on a college campus in Utah. He co-founded the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was a close ally of President Donald Trump.

Senate Bill 1188

SB 1188 would establish "Charlie Kirk Speech Day" in Oklahoma. The day would take place on October 14, and lawmakers say it would "include statewide programs and discussions promoting open dialogue and the protection of Constitutional rights.

Senate Bill 1187

In a release, Jett said SB 1187 would make sure that all institutions of higher education within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education designate and develop an area on its campus and designate it as the "Charlie Kirk Free Speech Plaza.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13

This legislation would recognize Kirk as a martyr for truth, faith and free speech. Jett said SCR 13 would also honor Kirks "unwavering courage in defending American liberties; and declares the commitment to perpetuate his legacy of courage and faith."
