The Tulsa SPCA has been a cornerstone of animal welfare in the community since its founding in 1913. The organization was officially incorporated as a nonprofit in 1949 and has since remained dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats—and the people who love them.
Today, the organization is led in part by Chief Development Officer Suzanne Jalot, who helps guide the Tulsa SPCA’s efforts in animal rescue, adoption, and community outreach.
Last year alone, the Tulsa SPCA helped more than 1,400 animals find loving homes. Currently, about 50 dogs and cats are available for adoption, with more than half of them being dogs.
The organization continues to serve not only animals in need, but also pet owners across the Tulsa area through various support programs and services.
The Tulsa SPCA’s biggest annual fundraiser—Bingo Bash—is set for Saturday, Aug. 2 at OU-Tulsa’s Founders Hall. Doors and the bar open at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the games beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The event includes six rounds of bingo with prizes, a silent auction, delicious food, and the return of a popular dessert auction. It’s a critical fundraising event that combines community fun with purpose.
The Tulsa SPCA’s mission is simple but powerful: to improve the lives of dogs and cats, and their human companions.
For Jalot, the most rewarding part of her role is witnessing the life-changing impact of their work.
“Every day, our work directly improves the lives of vulnerable animals and the people who love them,” Jalot said. “Seeing the joy on an adopter’s face or the relief in a pet owner’s eyes when they receive support or the transformation of animals who may have been shy and scared in the shelter environment, blossom once they’re in a loving home. Knowing you’re a small part of that makes this work so rewarding.”
One of the adoptable dogs at this year’s event is Dexter, a 6-year-old, 58-pound shepherd mix. Dexter is described as happy, friendly, and cuddly.
He enjoys exploring new places, catching treats mid-air, and walking politely on a leash. While likely housetrained, adopters should be aware that he’s been known to jump fences.
