Skiatook Police arrested a man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend.
Police say Chad Weathers didn’t call 911 until the next morning, and when officers got there, they found Tanya Anderson dead.
Officers say when they got to the house, Chad Weathers told officers, “I’ve got a weird one for you,” and then said he shot his girlfriend the night before.
Skiatook Police say Chad Weathers called 911 Sunday morning around 9:30, saying he needed officers to come to his house near Osage and Chestnut.
Police say when the dispatcher asked why officers were needed, Weathers hung up the phone.
“Normally, when people call the police, they tell us what they need, so it was kind of unusual, but having said that, that’s not the first thing that we go to, the first thing you go to is not a homicide," said Chief Jason Willingham.
When officers got to the house, they say Weathers told them, "I've got a weird one for you," then said he shot his girlfriend, Tanya Anderson, the night before.
Officers found Anderson dead in a bedroom with a gun next to her.
"He’s known throughout the community, I know she was too, as well, so you know it’s shocking. It kind of shocks the conscience a little because everybody thinks 'Oh, this won’t happen in our town,'" said Willingham.
Chief Willingham says the victim’s family told police the couple had a history of domestic violence, but Willingham says nothing had been reported to Skiatook Police.
He says this is the second domestic-related homicide in town in a month, and now they are still working the case.
“Just because he’s in jail doesn’t mean the case is wrapped up. We are going to continue to try to find out answers, try to find out ways this could have been prevented," said Willingham. “The why. The family deserves this. These are obviously traumatic situations. This is a nice, quiet neighborhood. Nobody expected anything like this to happen; the family didn’t expect anything like this to happen.”
Weathers is now in the Osage County jail, booked for first-degree murder.
