The Tulsa Artists' Coalition is celebrating 25 years by highlighting small canvases and big talent. Their 5x5 art show starts on Friday.
In the heart of the Arts District, the Tulsa Artists' Coalition is turning tiny canvases into a major celebration of art.
The pieces measure just five by five inches but represent a wide range of styles and skill levels---from fabric art to depictions of everyday life.
250 artists have a square on display, including longtime painter Mary Lee Weaver.
"I painted a swan that represents Swan Lake," she said.
Mary Lee works with watercolor.
"Everyone says it's hard, but that's the only medium I have worked with, so I have just developed it over the years."
Sallie Gardner works for the Coalition and says events like this are key to supporting Tulsa’s growing art community.
"It's just an important part of our culture and an important part of Tulsa," she said. "Tulsa is really becoming a thriving art center."
And while it helps the local artists, it also helps the organization.
The doors will open at 5:55 on Friday night and the proceeds will go to supporting the upkeep of the Coalition. If you can't make it to opening night, the gallery will be on display through the 17th.
