Bixby Superintendent Rob Miller confirmed that he is throwing his name into the ring to be the next Oklahoma State Superintendent.

Miller said he is running as a Republican and has led Bixby schools since 2018.

"I don't think there's ever a bad time to do the right thing. And this just felt like the right time to be able to put my name out there to help teachers and educators focus on building that hope for the future that maybe things aren't going to stay the way they are currently," said Miller.

Over the last year, he has been at the center of a legal battle with State Superintendent Ryan Walters. In August 2024, Miller filed a defamation lawsuit against Walters, alleging the state superintendent made false statements about him. Walters has denied wrongdoing and filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

"I'm not running against anyone, I'm running for Oklahoma's families and kids," said Miller.

Grace Kim, the spokesperson for Walters, sent News On 6 the following statement attributed to her:

“Superintendent Walters remains focused on keeping woke administrators out of the classroom, implementing President Trump’s education reforms, and empowering parents to have a greater voice in their children’s education.
Future political decisions will be made at a later time.”
