The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) has been treating turnpikes since Sunday, keeping major routes clear as winter weather continues across the state, according to News 9's Jordan Fremstad.
Reporting from the Turner Turnpike near Chandler, Fremstad said road conditions remain manageable, with a steady flow of traffic and few slide-offs. Some motorists have experienced vehicle issues due to the cold, and those incidents may increase as temperatures drop overnight.
Heavy-duty vehicles and tractor-trailers make up most of the traffic, as treated highways and turnpikes remain drivable. However, officials warn that county and side roads remain slick and hazardous due to untreated snow and sleet. Drivers are advised to avoid travel unless necessary.
