The Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma are planning the 21st annual Juliette Low Leadership Society Luncheon, an opportunity to raise money for the program to help girls across the state.

On Friday, event co-chairs Christi Woodworth and Jill Trauschke joined the News 9 team to share more information about the event.

Q: Tell us a bit about the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.

Trauschke: "We serve thousands of girls here with the Girl Scouts. Our service area is actually over 39 counties, so that's a big portion of Oklahoma. Our Juliet Low Leadership Society Luncheon is coming up this week ... We're thrilled about it. It's actually one of the major fundraisers for Girl Scouts."

Q: Where does the money go?

Woodworth: "The money raised at the luncheon specifically goes to help Girl Scouts through scholarships or financial assistance. Girl Scouts never turn away a family for the ability to pay. For some girls, it's buying a uniform, and so we want to be sure every girl has that opportunity to be a Girl Scout. The funds raised at the luncheon support programming and support girls who need those dollars."

Q: Can you share a story of one girl that you have seen, and how the Girl Scouts has changed her life?

Woodworth: "There's a young woman who actually serves on the Girl Scout board of directors. She's a high school student at Edmond Santa Fe High School, and so we've had the opportunity to watch her grow in her confidence and grow in her leadership. She's a really great young woman, she's actually going to be on stage with us next week and interviewing our keynote speaker. So she's just been phenomenal."

Q: What does it do to you when you see the empowerment of a new generation of girls? How does that just make you feel?

Woodworth: "It's very energizing. It makes Oklahoma City a better place for all of us if we're taking care of our girls and helping them become leaders and entrepreneurs or whatever they want to do.

Tickets for the Juliette Low Leadership Society Luncheon are still available. To purchase tickets, visit the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma's website.
