A metro man is thankful to be alive or not seriously hurt after an alleged hit-and-run crash on I-35. A News 9 photographer captured the crash on his dash cam. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol requested the video from News 9 for their investigation.
“It was rainy,” said Jharad Johnson, victim of hit-and-run crash. “It was slick.”
The weather made the commute to work less than ideal Thursday morning.
“The fog it was like less than a mile visibility,” said Johnson.
News 9 photographer Ben Latham was traveling behind Johnson on I-35 when the crash happened.
“I felt a little bump on the backside and I just started spinning,” said Johnson. “You know I felt like God was looking out for me.”
The truck that allegedly hit Johnson kept driving as if nothing happened. Meanwhile Johnson was forced to pull to the shoulder of the highway.
“It was really scary,” said Johnson. “It was scary. There’s no other way to put it.”
Johnson said he was shocked when OHP Troopers questioned his version of the crash.
“How can you tell me this didn’t happen?” said Johnson. “When there are witnesses that can corroborate what happened.”
Johnson admitted his previous criminal record may have caused the Troopers' concern, but believed the video was undeniable. He was left with damage to his car that he cannot afford to fix.
“I’m trying to put money together for the deductible,” said Johnson.
He remains hopeful the driver who hit him will come forward.
“If he came forward it would be right,” said Johnson. “But I’m not the type of person, I forgive him. If he can help me fix my car, that’s it.”
The crash happened on Thursday on the southbound lanes of I-35 just past the northeast 10th street exit around 6:50 a.m.
The OHP investigator reviewed the dash cam video and claimed the truck never made contact with Johnson's car but did make an improper lane change. They could not make out of the tag number on the truck.
