The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting multiple hiring events in Norman to provide opportunities for the state's veteran population.

Joining the News 9 team to share more about the scheduled event set for later this month is OKSTEP Veterans Employment Program Administrator Randall Coon.

Q: Can you tell us more about the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs?

A: "The Oklahoma Department of Veteran Affairs has seven well-kept secrets to be able to provide for our veterans. A veteran is an honored individual, and we want to make sure we're properly taking care of them. Not only do we work with their claims and benefits, we have an OKVETWORKS program if they're an entrepreneur. The OKSTEP program if they need to get employment, we help them with their resume, interviewing and dress. We've got the Women Veterans Program, State [Veterans] Cemetary ... Veterans Homes is really why we're wanting to showcase this, because we have a need. We have these honored individuals who are having assisted living or medical care and stuff like that. They go to these centers, and we want to make sure we're providing them the top-level care that we can."

Q: Tell us a little bit about this upcoming job fair that you are going to be holding in Norman.

A: "We're looking for RNs, I'm looking for supervisors and managers of RNs. I've got LPN, CNA, CMAs, plus I've got support staff. I need food services, janitorial, custodial. All of those positions are available. There are 18 open positions right now that are all state employees. So the state benefits will apply."

Q: Can you give us the details of the hiring event that's coming up later this month?

A: On Feb. 20, and then on the third Thursday of every month at the Norman Veterans HomeThat's located at 1776 East Robinson Street in Norman, and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. we're having open interviews. Come with your resume, and then we'll go from the process there. It's going to be very casual, but we want you to come prepared.
