The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has lifted a boil order for Rural Water Districts 3 and 12 in Rogers County following a precautionary advisory triggered by an E. coli detection.

The boil order went into effect last Thursday after a routine water sample from a tap in Owasso tested positive for E. coli bacteria. The order impacted around 5,000 residents living northeast of Owasso and south of Highway 20.

After follow-up testing confirmed the water is now safe to drink, DEQ officials gave the all-clear.

DEQ is urging all water customers in the affected areas to flush their plumbing systems. Running water through faucets for several minutes will help clear out any potentially contaminated water that may still be in the pipes.
