"We always say, this is like a family reunion."
Some of the area's top NFL and college football players are back in Green Country this weekend for the "Tulsa Made Week."
"We want to make sure that this weekend, and the future, is something like you cannot miss, you have to get to," says event co-founder Dwight Dobbins.
Nearly 40 athletes are gathering together for a weekend of football, fellowship, and life lessons.
"I'm glad that we were able to come together. With a lot of football players are different places, at different times, it's hard to get us all together at the same time. It's been a blessing," says NFL running back, and former Jenks standout, Darwin Thompson.
What started as an idea while brainstorming at a coffee shop on Greenwood, has grown into a three day event.
"Not many people shed light on us. I think we get once in a lifetime moments, like the Josh Jacobs and the Tyler Locketts, but I think there's so much talent, and I hope this weekend resonates with everyone. There's so many of us. Outside of us, we are a great people," says event co-founder Anthony Diaz.
The athletes spent more than two hours on Saturday competing against each other, and lifting each other up.
"That's the only way we should be able to rise to the next level, is "reach one, teach one." If I knew better, I would do better," says Thompson. "And so now I can give someone the game to accelerate them to go to the next level."
The theme of "Tulsa Made Week" has been "The City of Underdogs."
"We've always wanted to show the world, it's almost Tulsa versus the world, Tulsa versus everybody, it's not about the quantity of guys, but it's about the quality," says Dobbins. "And I feel like we have the best quality."
And for "Tulsa Made" co-founder Anthony Diaz, it's about leaving a legacy. The Broken Arrow native saw his football career get cut short after suffering a heart attack at practice while he was a player at OSU, but he sees this event as a opportunity to help the future.
"This is my mantle. This is my agenda. Like I have to do this. Because the next generation, what are they going to be standing on," says Diaz. "I want to make sure they're standing on something that hasn't been there for us."
